Stop The Unregulated Frankenfood Invasion

Biotech corporations want to dump unlimited and unregulated amounts of poison and genetic weirdness into our food supply, immune even from judicial challenge.

That would seem to be the urgent policy issue behind the sneaky addition of a rider to the Agriculture Appropriations Bill now before Congress. If not stopped this would allow the invasion of our environment by UNTESTED Frankenstein plants and animals, permanently corrupting our food chain before we even know their long term effects. These genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are splicing together strange genes that would not have happened in nature in a hundred million years, and which cannot be controlled after their reckless release.

The introduction of previous incarnations of such biological monstrosities has already been a disaster, leading to the quick evolution of superweeds now unaffected by the larger and larger amounts of noxious chemicals being applied to try to keep them down. But this bill would seek to disempower both the USDA and our courts from any kind of regulation of these biological polluters.
