In the long term, Keystone XL represents capitulation to a looming global warming catastrophe. In the short term, we are just marking time until the first of many disastrous pipeline leaks of the most corrosive and toxic crude oil there is. There are hundreds of pipeline spills every year already, and with Keystone XL we are just begging for serious aquifer contamination of our heartland states.

The State Department did a once over lightly environment impact statement with the basic tone of "so what?" And for those who are all rah-rah for domestic fossil fuel exploitation, what they want to keep quiet is that any products from this pipeline are intended to go mostly directly to China.
