Schedule A Prompt Hearing For SB1272, The Overturn Citizens United Act

The Overturn Citizens United Act, SB1272, which would give the citizens of CA a chance to speak this next election day in favor of a constitutional amendment to correct it, passed out of the CA Senate Wednesday, May 28th, and has been referred to the Assembly Elections and Redistricting Committee.

We, the people of California, call on the members of this committee, who represent us all, to move promptly to schedule a hearing on this, just as every previous committee to handle this has done, and no later than the next regularly scheduled hearing date, on June 10th.

But we were told by the E & R Committee's lead staffer that they may choose not to schedule a hearing to consider The Overturn Citizens United Act until June 24th. This is unacceptable! Thwarting the will of the voters of California is not an appropriate exercise of discretion. With our June 26th "done and dusted" deadline looming, the E & R Committee needs to meet on June 10th, and have this on the agenda.

This measure would demonstrate leadership for the State of California, and it too important not to take up at the first opportunity.
